“Handy Andy” Pafko had the honor of leading off the first major Topps Baseball release featuring “giant size” picture cards and a slab of bubblegum. Due to his placement in the set, the smiling All-Star was also perpetually atop many rubber bound stacks of cardboard, proving higher grade copies to be quite scarce. Graded NM 7 by PSA, the offered 1952 Topps #1 Andy Pafko has escaped extensive handling and surpasses 96% of all confirmed copies judged by the grading service. The properly centered canvas is crowned by sharp corners, crisp edges and penetrating surface hues. The red back is problem-free and accentuated by crisp and bold black type. For set collectors and graded specialists alike, this Brooklyn “Bum” is definitely “one to get” for those pursuing the iconic 1952 Topps Baseball edition.
