Traded to a “contender” for his 1964 swan song, 37-year-old Duke Snider saw limited playing time as his San Francisco Giants did, indeed, contend for the N.L. flag. This Candlestick Park ticket stub was issued on October 3, 1964 as the host Giants were eliminated from the pennant race in Snider’s final Major League contest. Summoned to the plate to pinch hit for pitcher Billy Pierce in the bottom of the ninth with his club trailing, 10-5, Snider led off with a base hit to right field. In an ironic turn of events two outs later, Snider came in to score for the final time in his career as none other than Willie Mays, a longtime former rival on the East Coast, homered to pull the hosts within 10-7. The voucher features printed seating/event legends, as well as the facsimile signature of owner Horace Stoneham. Sharp edges/corners and wonderful presentation quality make this a viable candidate for third-party grading.
