Description

Possibly unique 1887 Pittsburgh Alleghenys vs. Detroit Wolverines scorecard from the "Steel City" franchise's first season in the National League. The youthful portrait of Geo. F. (Doggie) Miller graces the cover of the nearly 8-1/4 x 6-3/4" gatefold artifact. Vintage pencil notations attribute this game to September 30th, when the homestanding squad lost a hard fought contest to the Detroit Wolverines by a 2-1 margin. Interestingly, the Wolverines would play in the inaugural Dauvray Cup (predecessor to the World Series) just two weeks later. Four Hall of Famers are confirmed as playing in the early Fall contest including Pud Galvin of the Alleghenys along with Dan Brouthers, Ned Hanlon and Sam Thompson of the Wolverines. Has survived the past 125 years in remarkable condition with expected perimeter wear, moderate fold stressing and mild creasing. Historically significant scorecard from the dawn of the Alleghenys/Pirates franchise.
